Learning Commons at the CBE
Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.
School Literary Materials Selection
Related to Ministerial Order (#034/2025), Standards for the Selection, Availability, and Access of School Library Materials, CBE has published an administrative regulation AR3051: School Literary Materials Selection. Families and community members can request a review or reconsideration of a literary resource in a school's learning commons by completing the School Library Materials Reconsideration Challenge Request through their local school.
CBE also has an eLibrary online tool available to families, students and staff, which is an online catalogue for all CBE school libraries with detailed information on books, DVD’s and other resources that are available to borrow.
Additionally, parents and legal guardians are welcome to review classroom library collections by contacting your child's school.
Our Learning Commons
The Willow Park Learning Commons is located upstairs above the front entrance of the school. It is a large inviting space with a variety of comfortable furniture and lots of natural light. The learning commons is the hub of our learning community. The space is available to teachers and students for whole class or individual visits.
Mrs. Dickson works in the learning commons Monday to Thursday. She supports students and staff with books, technology, printing, passwords, wifi, and more.
Students may work in the learning commons with their teacher’s permission and if the space is available. Students must work quietly and tidy their area before they leave.
Willow Park Library Card
Students will receive their library card after their school photos arrive. This card is used to borrow books and to access the printer. Any CBE card from any past grade will also work. Students, please bring your card every time you visit the learning commons.
Books
We have almost 8,000 books in our collection. To help students choose a book to read, we use red M for Mature stickers to indicate grade levels. No Mature sticker means the book is good for everyone. One Mature sticker means the book is good for grades 7 to 9. Two Mature stickers mean the book is good for grade 9 only.
All books are due in two weeks. If you need more time, please renew your book for another two weeks.
If you have lost your library book, please see Mrs. Dickson to decide next steps.
Partnership with Calgary Public Library
The Calgary Public Library has an extensive collection of online resources in their digital library that are always available. They include access to ebooks and audiobooks, encyclopedias, homework help, a coding game, and more. Ask Mrs. Dickson if you need help accessing these resources.
