Thank You, School Council

We want to send a huge shout out to our amazing and very supportive school council. Not only did they help purchase some breakfast treats for staff on our first day, but they also fully supported our Welcome Back BBQ. We served almost 600 burgers to hungry staff and students.

Thank You First Day Volunteers

The school wants to thank the 25 volunteers who gave up an extra day of summer holidays to be outstanding ambassadors with our new WP students. From the moment these students arrived, they were seen helping in any way possible. Thank you for giving us your time!

Grade 7-9 Option Changes

Although we could not accommodate every option change request, we were able to approve over 150 requests the past two days. Monday is the last day for any changes as teachers need to get things going for this semester.

Healthy Hunger – New Fun Lunches Available

Check out Healthy Hunger to register your child(ren) for fun lunches. WPS will offer 1-2 fun lunches each month. Fun lunches are part of the School Council’s fundraising activities for the year. Fun lunches not picked up by the beginning of lunch the next day, we be donated or thrown out; the exception being Booster juice which does not keep overnight.

Traffic Safety | Parking Concerns

First of all, thank you for not parking in front of the school so our 9 busses can find a spot. We do want to remind families that there are “no-parking or bus parking only” signs along most of Willow Park Drive.

It is that time of the year when we really need to remind all parents/guardians that we must be safe (and legal) when dropping or picking up your child(ren). Every day, we see students being dropped off or picked up across the street (west bound on Willow Park Drive) forcing students to jaywalk to get to the other side. Not only is this extremely unsafe, but it stops the flow of east bound traffic in the process; cause headaches for other parents. Please insist that your child(ren) use the crosswalk or plan your drive to let them off heading eastbound on Willow Park Drive.

Please do not use our staff parking lot to pick-up or drop off students. The exception is for any student requiring one of our handi-cap spots.

These spots need to be reserved for students requiring this accommodation, not the driver with this requirement.

Athletics – Tryouts

We have lots going on in the realm of athletics. This week Soccer and Cross Country tryouts/practices started. We are hoping to start Basketball try-outs very soon.

Basketball Coach Needed ASAP

We are in need of a volunteer coach (with some experience) that would be willing to take on our girl’s basketball team. We have a teacher sponsor that would manage all things (supervision, paperwork, scheduling etc.) but would love someone to support our athletes on the court. Please contact our PE Learning Leader – Andrew Phillips @at anphillips@cbe.ab.ca if you have any questions or are interested.
