Terry Fox Run – Twoonie For Terry
WPS will be participating in a run/walk in support of the Terry Fox Foundation on Wednesday, Sept 27. We are asking every student to bring in a TWOONIE in support of this amazing cause. We will also be selling drinks and snacks after the run, with all proceeds going towards this great cause.
Jacket Racket – Winter Clothing Drive
Willow Park School is helping out, by collecting gently used winter jackets, snow pants, hats and mittens to be distributed to children who need them.
Jacket Racket has been providing clean, gently used winter jackets to Calgary children since the 1980’s. The project runs every year from mid-October to mid-November. Coats, snow pants, hats and mittens are collected, sorted and distributed by a group of dedicated volunteers. The distribution is done through the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.
We will be accepting donations for Jacket Racket until Thursday, November 2. Please send any donation items to the school’s main office. Thank you for your support
Are You Interested In Volunteering At WPS?
There will be many exciting opportunities throughout the school year to volunteer for in school activities/events, as well as out of school field trips.
To be able to volunteer for any of these opportunities you must have completed an Annual Volunteer Registration Form AND have a valid Police Information Check (ePIC). An ePIC can take up to 6 weeks to process. If you have a valid clearance at another CBE school, please contact the school office to see about attaching your information to our database.
To find out more information about volunteering at WPS please check out our website under “Get Involved” and “Volunteer”. There you will find the link to the Annual Volunteer Registration Form and info on the Volunteer Security Clearance Process.

WPS Going Scent Free – Supporting The Health Needs Of All
With the growing amount of staff and students whom are sensitive and/or allergic to perfumes and other strong scents, we find it important to move in this direction. We are asking all students and our guests, to be respectful to the health needs of others, by not wearing strong perfumes, deodorants, hairsprays, etc. when they are at WPS.
Pick Up/Drop Off Safety
We need to remind families about safety when dropping off or picking up your child at the end of the day. Students should not be jay-walking across the street because it is easy to and from. This is a huge safety concern during a very busy time of the day.
We also must remind you to NOT park in front of our neighbour’s driveways. They need access to get in and out of their homes.
Cell Phones – Away For The Day Policy
We are pleased with how our students are thriving in their learning environments and respecting our “away for the day” cell phone policy. Thank you for your support in this matter. We know this will have a positive impact on our student’s learning environment.
For your reference we wanted to share what steps we are taking to maintain this rule.
If a student is accessing their phone outside of the designated time, the following interventions will be made:
- 1st time: Student receives a warning and places their phone in their locker
- 2nd time: Phone is turned in to the office and handed back at the end of the day.
- 3rd time: Phone is turned in to the office and handed back at the end of the day. The office will call the students home to inform them of the school rule violation.
- 4th time: In person parent/ guardian meeting required
